Go ahead… Use AI To “Design” Your Logo. We’ll see you in a couple of months.

AI Has become a Useful Tool For Many Things… Building a Brand With It Is not One of THem.

An ode to creativity and standing out from the AI generated crowd

Day in and day out we here at Agave Studio are hammered with questions from friends and clients a like, “are you worried about Artificial Intelligence (AI) taking your job?” The answer is really an emphatic “no.” We would be amiss to claim that we don’t use the technology in other parts of our business, blog writing comes to mind, but we pride ourselves on fully custom branding and website design. That’s just something that AI can’t compete with and will likely never be able to compete with.

Now, if you’re coming here for a, “robots are scary and evil!” post then you might be disappointed. This isn’t going to be that. In fact, we here at Agave Studio use AI for some of our more mundane tasks that would otherwise take up hours of our time. Writing emails, getting blog post ideas, keyword research, etc. These tasks can take hours and AI can really shorten the time spent on these. We’d much rather be designing logos and websites for our amazing clients. You know, the “fun” creative stuff! What we don’t do is use AI to design logos, build brands, and create website layouts for us. Quite frankly, we can spot AI work from a mile away, and your customers probably can too. That’s not a good thing.

Your brand just isn’t your logo, business name, and some pretty colors. It’s how you stand out in the marketplace next to your competition and the space you occupy in your potential customer’s brain. If your brand looks like everyone else’s… what’s the point? How is Sally going to remember your dog grooming business for her pug when your business has the same AI generated paw print as the other dog grooming business down the street? That’s just an easy example. These “AI logo makers” claim to create unique and creative, but what they’re really doing is just using an algorithm to generate a mish-mash of a logo for you. Here is a little bit of “robots are bad,” for you… they’re probably ripping off someone else’s work to do it too. Usually these “logos” make no sense nor can tell your brand story, and that is what will set you apart from your competition.

The same holds true for your website. We’ve been lulled into complacency that it’s easy to create a website with a template and some AI generated copy. That is really dead wrong. Once again, your website will look like everyone else’s, it won’t take into consideration your business goals, and, last but not least, it won’t look and feel like your brand. We hope you’re getting the common theme we keep returning to here.

So, this is an ode to creativity and maybe not completely rejecting the use of artificial intelligence for your business. Maybe just leave the creative parts to the experts and let us create a truly unique and creative brand that will stand the test of time. At the end of the day, shouldn’t we be using this new and exciting technology to make the more mundane parts of our jobs easier and not ripping off other creatives and artists?

If you want a plain logo with a stale website, then you should by all means use some of those AI tools out there to give you that. We’ll be waiting over here when your website doesn’t covert traffic and you hear, “oh, your logo looks exactly the same as this other business down the street!”
